INTRODUCTION:
Few legal fields have witnessed as many changes over the past thirty
years as has employment and labor law. Laws such as EEO, Affirmative
Action, Family & Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities
Act, COBRA, NLRA, Equal Pay Act, and Fair Labor Standards Act have
been responsible for changing the relationship between employers and
employees. All workers have the right to know which laws protect
them in the workplace, and employers must be updated on how changes
in those laws could affect their companies.
This workshop provides an overview of employment regulations for
today’s supervisors and managers, thus providing a heads-up
awareness of possible violations so that the manager may address
such issues with the company’s human resources department or legal
staff. Many supervisors and managers are unaware that they hold the
company and themselves legally liable for their actions, words, and
deeds. WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:
• Understand the employment and labor laws
that apply
to your organization.
• Recognize when you are making a decision that is
affected by a major federal employment law.
• Recognize when you need to seek the advice of a
human resources professional or a legal advisor.
• Help other employees and supervisors understand their
roles in ensuring that your organization complies with
various employment and labor laws.
