Successful supervision begins with applying good
common sense in all that you do. Unfortunately, the use of common
sense is usually not common in the workplace. Yet, common sense is a
critical requirement and prerequisite for a successful career in
Management. As a frontline supervisor, your ability to work
effectively with people is fundamental to your success, the success
of your team, and ultimately the success of your company. Successful
supervisors effectively blend a combination of personal,
interpersonal, and team management skills in order to effectively
supervise people and process.
What makes an effective supervisor? How are
supervisory skills learned and which skills should YOU personally
focus on to become a more effective supervisor? The answer is
individual and is based on a combination experience, capability,
desire for success, and your personal capacity to learn and grow.
The effective supervision of people is often recommended as a
logical starting point for effective supervisory skills training. It
is people who make organizations successful; therefore, supervising
others effectively is a good beginning for most individuals. The
effective supervision of people is considered to be the top priority
for all levels of management! It begins with YOU!
As a supervisor, you are a leader of people! Your
ability to handle others effectively and align your job skills and
abilities with the company’s goals and objectives builds a solid
foundation for your
personal success, the success of your employees, and the business
success of your company.
