Federal Minimum Wage Increase:  HR 2206 was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush.  The new rate will become effective July 24, 2007.  Federal minimum wage will increase in 3 steps over the next 2 years:  Initial increase to $5.85; 12 months after this initial increase, the minimum wage rate will increase to $6.55 per hour; Finally, in 2009, the federal minimum wage rate will increase to $7.25 per hour.
